Course Title:
Course content:
The course examines the principles underlying clause structure from a functional and experimental perspective, with particular attention to their morphosyntactic realization. Clause structure are analyzed through the notions of predicate and argument, whose formal and interpretive properties are examined and applied to the analysis of major clause types.
Prerequisites:
Course books: 1) N. La Fauci, Compendio di sintassi italiana, Il Mulino, Bologna, 2009 (capp. 1-13)
2) N. La Fauci & I. Mirto, Fare. Elementi di sintassi, ETS, Pisa 2003 (testo facoltativo di approfondimento).
Teaching Methods: The course consists of lectures supported by PowerPoint presentations. Regular attendance is strongly recommended.
Learning Objectives: a) The course provides students with the theoretical and methodological knowledge necessary to analyse the structure of simple sentences from a functional perspective through an experimental approach. (b) Students develop skills in the analysis and interpretation of linguistic data, including from a typological-comparative perspective, (c) and acquire the ability to critically evaluate alternative analytical models. (d) They also develop specialised communication skills and (e) the capacity to independently investigate complex syntactic phenomena by engaging with relevant literature and applying the acquired theoretical and methodological tools to new empirical data.
Expected Learning Outcomes and Assessment Methods: Optional written test, Oral exam
