Course Title: Course content:	The course provides a comprehensive overview of the history of Italian musical opera from the 17th century to Verismo, extending to its connections with the history of theatre and the evolution of female vocal performance. The program will include exercises in musical dramaturgy, guided listening sessions, and discussion forums.

Teaching Methods:
Learning Objectives:	The course aims to provide students with the musical, dramatic, and performing skills necessary to understand the history of musical theatre, with a particular focus on Italian opera from the 17th to the early 20th centuries. By the end of the course, students will have developed the skills necessary to contextualise composers and musical styles within a historical framework, identify the main formal aspects of opera, and use the specific vocabulary of musical dramaturgy. The course provides students with the tools to appreciate opera performances in a more informed way and to understand Italian culture in an international context.
