Course Title: Course content:	During the course (Module A) we will provide basic notions of history of the book and textual philology. Examples will be mostly taken from the Medieval literary tradition, and the different editorial solutions adopted, as well as the consequent interpretative problems, will be presented to the students. Modulo B, prof.Marrani, 42 ore: This module provides a general overview of the imagery surrounding the animal world in the Middle Ages in order to compare it with the Italian literary landscape of the thirteenth century. Dante’s Comedy will be presented as an exceptional and highly significant example of medieval Italian and European culture, while also being examined for its elements of continuity and discontinuity with the present day. The Comedy will also be examined from a philological perspective.

Teaching Methods:	The course comprises lectures, in-depth seminars, and classroom exercises focused on reading, comprehension, paraphrasing, and textual analysis. It will also include visits to Tuscan historical archives and libraries to examine firsthand manuscripts, incunabula, and printed editions containing the text of the Commedia or other works discussed during the course.
Learning Objectives:	Modulo A: The students should acquire basic knowledge of history of the book and Italian Philology; they should know the dynamics of production and transmission of medieval texts and understand the problems related to the critical edition and the commentary of a text that has come to us in the multi-copy tradition. They should acquire a greater dialectic capacity in the philological-literary field, thanks to the learning of the concepts and of the relative specific terminology. Modulo B: 1. Knowledge and understanding: Master core concepts of textual philology; analyze Dante’s Comedy in detail with close attention to sources; present Dante and his work to an international audience. 2. Applying knowledge and understanding: recognize medieval legacy in contemporary Italy and Europe; compare medieval and modern cultural models, evaluating their connections and differences. 3. Making judgments: Identify characteristics of critical editions and cultural models in medieval works; reflect on the historical nature of cultural identities. 4. Communication skills: Develop critical awareness and effective argumentative skills across academic, educational, and public outreach contexts. 5. Learning skills: Analyze past and present cultural phenomena via a comparative method.
